Who is Drillbit?

Drillbit is a venture-backed startup out of Y Combinator's Summer 2024 batch, with $4.4 million raised at a reported $50 million valuation. It is one of the only funded companies trying to replace field service software entirely rather than sit on top of it: the AI receptionist and its LLM quoting engine are the system of record. The AI answers calls, texts, and emails, qualifies leads, writes quotes, schedules jobs around technician availability, and chases unpaid invoices.

The company says its AI has generated over $95 million in gross merchandise value for customers, and it backs the product with an unusual guarantee: at least $100 of revenue for every $1 you pay. Pricing starts at $500 a month per location for what Drillbit calls a full-time AI employee, with usage-based billing once that employee hits its quota. It targets plumbers, electricians, cleaners, lawn care, and roofers.

If you believe the office of the future has no office staff at all, Drillbit is the purest version of that bet you can buy today. It is also a young product from a small startup, and details like free trials, contracts, integrations, and app ratings are not published.

Who is Autopilot?

Autopilot is an all-in-one CRM built for home service businesses: junk removal, cleaning, landscaping, moving, and the rest of the trades that keep neighborhoods running. Plans start at $49 a month for scheduling, estimates, invoicing, payments, and online booking. Crew at $99 adds two-way texting and limited calling. Full Throttle at $149 adds the full phone system, AI receptionist, QuickBooks, GPS, and marketing tools. Plans include 1, 5, or 10 team members respectively.

It was built by a founder who ran his own junk removal company and got tired of paying for three tools that didn't talk to each other. Over 400 businesses run on it today, and it holds a 4.8 rating on the App Store and 4.9 on Google Play.

Against Drillbit, the pitch is control: Autopilot gives you the same AI receptionist answering your phone, but inside a proven CRM where you can still see the schedule, edit the quote, and run the business yourself, for a tenth of the starting price.

The bottom line

Two different tools for two different businesses. Here is the honest split.

Choose Drillbit if…

  • You want an AI to run the office end to end and are comfortable letting it be the system of record
  • You are drowning in missed calls and unquoted leads and want maximum automation immediately
  • The $100-per-$1 revenue guarantee matters more to you than a predictable software bill
  • You like being early on new technology and can live with a young product

Choose Autopilot if…

  • You want the AI receptionist plus a full CRM your crew can actually see and drive
  • You want a predictable flat bill, $49 to $149 a month, not $500 plus usage
  • You want a free 2-week trial and month-to-month terms before you commit
  • You want proven basics too: scheduling, estimates, invoicing, QuickBooks sync, marketing, all published and testable today

Switching from Drillbit takes an afternoon

Four steps, and our team does the heavy one for you.

  1. 1

    Export your customers

Pull your client list out of Drillbit as a CSV. Every FSM platform supports this, and it takes about five minutes.

  2. 2

    We import everything for you

Send us the file and our team loads your customers, jobs, and price book into Autopilot as part of free onboarding. No spreadsheet wrestling on your end.

  3. 3

Point your phone number at Autopilot

On Full Throttle, keep your existing business number. We port it or forward it, so calls start landing in Autopilot with recording, transcripts, and the AI receptionist behind them.

  4. 4

Run both for a week, then cut over

Your Drillbit account keeps working during your free trial. Most crews book their first Autopilot job on day one and cancel the old subscription within the month.
