The cubic yard math every junk removal quote runs on

We ran a junk removal company before we built software for one. This is the arithmetic the trucks actually run on.

Price the yard, not the pile

Every junk removal quote is secretly a cubic yard calculation. A franchise truck bed runs about 10 by 8 by 5 feet, which works out to roughly 14.8 cubic yards, and the load fractions on every pricing sheet, quarter, half, three-quarter, full, are just fractions of that box. Divide any full-load price by the yards and you get the only number that makes two quotes comparable: dollars per cubic yard. The franchise sheets set the ceiling in every market, and sharp independents price a notch under it.

The other half of the math is disposal. Dump fees vary wildly by facility and by material, and a quote made without knowing the gate rate is a guess with a margin problem. That is exactly why we keep a free, hauler-reported landfill price directory and a cubic yard calculator on this site: they are the two numbers every estimate is built from.

The junk removal quote, decomposed

  • A full franchise truck~14.8 cubic yards

10 x 8 x 5 feet, divided by 27. Every load fraction on the sheet is a slice of this.

  • Dollars per cubic yardThe comparison number

Divide any full-load price by the yards. It is how you compare trucks of different sizes.

  • The dump feePriced before you quote

Gate rates vary by facility and material. Quote blind and the margin pays for it.

Sheet prices vary by market and creep up yearly. The structure never changes: volume sets the price, disposal sets the floor, and the franchise sheet sets the ceiling.

What junk removal companies usually replace

Junk companies mostly arrive from Workiz, the common default in this trade, from Jobber, or from a booking spreadsheet and a personal cell number that stops scaling at the second truck.

We built Autopilot inside a junk removal company, which is why the free tools on this site, the cubic yard calculator, the landfill price directory, and the business map, exist at all.
