Autopilot vs Wintac

Wintac no longer exists. Support ended February 1, 2022, and its owner steered users to FieldEdge. If you are still running an old Wintac install, or you never loved where FieldEdge took you, Autopilot is a modern replacement with a flat price and the phone and AI receptionist built in.

Who is Wintac?

Wintac was one of the original desktop field service programs, a Windows application that HVAC, plumbing, and electrical shops ran on office PCs for decades. It handled work orders, dispatch, customer history, invoicing, and inventory in the era before cloud software, and thousands of shops built their daily routine around it.

The end came through a chain of acquisitions. Davisware picked up Wintac, then payments company Clearent acquired it in 2020 and folded it into FieldEdge, which is now part of Xplor Technologies. FieldEdge announced Wintac would sunset, and as of February 1, 2022 the product is no longer supported or maintained. Legacy customers were offered migration deals onto FieldEdge, and today the wintac.com domain is not even an active product site.

That leaves two kinds of people reading this page: shops still limping along on an unsupported Wintac install, and former Wintac users who took the FieldEdge migration and are re-evaluating. Either way, the comparison below is really about what should come next.

Who is Autopilot?

Autopilot is an all-in-one CRM built for home service businesses: junk removal, cleaning, landscaping, moving, and the rest of the trades that keep neighborhoods running. Plans start at $49 a month for scheduling, estimates, invoicing, payments, and online booking. Crew at $99 adds two-way texting and limited calling. Full Throttle at $149 adds the full phone system, AI receptionist, QuickBooks, GPS, and marketing tools. Plans include 1, 5, or 10 team members respectively.

It was built by a founder who ran his own junk removal company and got tired of paying for three tools that didn't talk to each other. Over 400 businesses run on it today, and it holds a 4.8 rating on the App Store and 4.9 on Google Play.

Autopilot plans are $49, $99, and $149 for 1, 5, and 10 team members, with the full phone, AI, QuickBooks, GPS, and marketing bundle on Full Throttle.

The bottom line

Two different tools for two different businesses. Here is the honest split.

Choose Wintac if…

  • There is no honest case for choosing Wintac today; the product is discontinued and unsupported
  • If you want the vendor's official successor with the closest feature lineage, that is FieldEdge, not Wintac
  • If you need deep flat-rate pricing and dispatch for a larger HVAC shop, look at FieldEdge or ServiceTitan

Choose Autopilot if…

  • You are still on an old Wintac install and need supported software before something breaks for good
  • You migrated to FieldEdge and want a simpler system at a flat price instead of per-user quotes
  • You want your business phone, texting, and an AI receptionist included, things desktop-era software never had
  • You want your crew running jobs from their phones with a 4.8-rated iOS app, not from an office PC

Switching from Wintac takes an afternoon

Four steps, and our team does the heavy one for you.

  1. 1

    Export your customers

Pull your client list out of Wintac as a CSV. Every FSM platform supports this, and it takes about five minutes.

  2. 2

    We import everything for you

Send us the file and our team loads your customers, jobs, and price book into Autopilot as part of free onboarding. No spreadsheet wrestling on your end.

  3. 3

Point your phone number at Autopilot

On Full Throttle, keep your existing business number. We port it or forward it, so calls start landing in Autopilot with recording, transcripts, and the AI receptionist behind them.

  4. 4

Run both for a week, then cut over

Your Wintac account keeps working during your free trial. Most crews book their first Autopilot job on day one and cancel the old subscription within the month.

Old Wintac installs can export customers and job history to CSV from the desktop program, and our onboarding team imports that file for free.
