Autopilot vs Handoff

Handoff is an AI estimator for remodelers: describe the project and it drafts the estimate, proposal, and budget. Autopilot is a field service CRM where the AI answers your phone. If your business is big remodel bids, Handoff earns a look; if it is service calls and repeat customers, Autopilot runs the whole day.

Who is Handoff?

Handoff is a venture-backed AI company (Y Combinator, roughly $25 million raised, with strategic money from Nemetschek and Masco) that builds an AI estimator and project assistant for residential remodelers, handymen, and fix-and-flippers. Its pitch is speed on big quotes: talk or type a project description and its AI, trained on residential construction data, drafts the line-item estimate, a polished proposal, and a budget, with client financing through Acorn Finance attached.

It is priced like the AI product it is. Flex is $149 a month ($119 billed annually) with two seats and 50 AI credits, Pro is $299 a month ($239 annually) with five seats, unlimited AI, and a 12-month commitment, and Scale at $899 a month adds AI takeoffs from residential plans. There is a short free trial, QuickBooks Online sync, invoicing and payments, project scheduling, and client portals; API access is enterprise-only.

What Handoff is not is a service CRM. There is no dispatch board for daily service calls, no business phone, no AI answering the line, no review funnel or campaign marketing. It is built around winning and managing project work, one sizable bid at a time, and it assumes the lead already reached you.

Who is Autopilot?

Autopilot is an all-in-one CRM built for home service businesses: junk removal, cleaning, landscaping, moving, and the rest of the trades that keep neighborhoods running. Plans start at $49 a month for scheduling, estimates, invoicing, payments, and online booking. Crew at $99 adds two-way texting and limited calling. Full Throttle at $149 adds the full phone system, AI receptionist, QuickBooks, GPS, and marketing tools. Plans include 1, 5, or 10 team members respectively.

It was built by a founder who ran his own junk removal company and got tired of paying for three tools that didn't talk to each other. Over 400 businesses run on it today, and it holds a 4.8 rating on the App Store and 4.9 on Google Play.

Against Handoff, the split is which AI you need: theirs writes estimates for remodel bids, ours answers the phone, books the job, and follows up, inside a CRM priced at a third of Handoff's entry plan.

The bottom line

Two different tools for two different businesses. Here is the honest split.

Choose Handoff if…

  • You are a remodeler or fix-and-flipper whose bottleneck is producing big detailed estimates
  • You want AI drafting line items, proposals, and budgets from a spoken project description
  • Client financing on large proposals wins you bids
  • You need AI takeoffs from residential plans and will use the Scale tier

Choose Autopilot if…

  • Your work is service calls and repeat customers, not month-long remodel projects
  • You want the AI answering your phone and booking jobs, not just writing estimates
  • You want dispatch, texting, online booking, reviews, and campaigns in one app
  • You want to start at $49 flat with no seat caps or 12-month commitments

Switching from Handoff takes an afternoon

Four steps, and our team does the heavy one for you.

  1. 1

    Export your customers

Pull your client list out of Handoff as a CSV. Every FSM platform supports this, and it takes about five minutes.

  2. 2

    We import everything for you

Send us the file and our team loads your customers, jobs, and price book into Autopilot as part of free onboarding. No spreadsheet wrestling on your end.

  3. 3

Point your phone number at Autopilot

On Full Throttle, keep your existing business number. We port it or forward it, so calls start landing in Autopilot with recording, transcripts, and the AI receptionist behind them.

  4. 4

Run both for a week, then cut over

Your Handoff account keeps working during your free trial. Most crews book their first Autopilot job on day one and cancel the old subscription within the month.
